Are you looking to connect with others who've had radical surgery for an abdominal wall desmoid tumor?

It's understandable to want to hear from people who've been through similar experiences. While surgery was historically a common approach for abdominal wall desmoid tumors, it's now used much less frequently because these tumors tend to return after removal.

When surgery was the primary treatment approach, many people experienced chronic problems afterward. The abdominal wall is crucial for mobility and staying active, so recovery can be significant and often requires physical therapy. Surgery might also involve using surgical mesh to rebuild the abdominal wall's firmness.

One concern with surgical removal is that tumors can return, sometimes as multiple growths rather than just one. This happens because small pieces left behind can each develop into separate tumors, potentially causing more complications than the original tumor.

Today, surgery is typically only considered for abdominal wall desmoid tumors that have progressed significantly, and the decision should be made by a multidisciplinary tumor board of specialists from different areas of expertise.

Have you already had surgery, or are you considering it as a treatment option?
