I am stage four almost five. I am 73. Just drink a lot. If you weigh as an example, 150 pounds try to drink at least 90 ounces of non caffeine or non alcoholic drinks per day. The other method can cause nerve damage and other problems as well.

I am on Ogsiveo since 12/28/23. I have an inter abdominal desmoid tumor. I also have kidney problems of which this medication made worse. Working with my nephrologists I do have kidney function but not that good. I learned that Ogsiveo is dehydrating although the drug company refuses to accept it. Rule of thumb is take your weight and divide by 2. That's the minimum number of ounces one needs to drink every day. Because my function is low I need to add another two percent or more. Caffeine drinks are a little dehydrating. Eight ounce of coffee equals only six ounces of fluid. Alcohol is even worse. Good luck

What are the similarities and differences between Ogsiveo and cryoablation for treating an abdominal wall desmoid tumor at age 80?

Both Ogsiveo (nirogacestat) and cryoablation can effectively treat desmoid tumors, but they work quite differently and have distinct considerations for someone your age.

Ogsiveo (Nirogacestat):
- A targeted therapy pill taken daily for up to 24 months
- Works by blocking certain growth pathways in the tumor
- Non-invasive option that doesn't require a procedure
- May be challenging if you have difficulty swallowing pills or have gastrointestinal issues

Cryoablation:
- A minimally invasive procedure that freezes and destroys tumor tissue
- Done once (though can be repeated if needed)
- Uses a needle inserted through the skin to deliver extremely cold gas
- Quick recovery time, typically within a week
- Can be particularly helpful for painful tumors
- Generally well-tolerated, even for older adults

Important considerations at age 80:

Cryoablation may be advantageous because it's a one-time procedure with minimal recovery time and poses fewer risks than surgery. It's often suitable for people who aren't candidates for more aggressive interventions.

However, both options have potential risks. Cryoablation risks include nerve injury, infection, bleeding, or incomplete tumor destruction. Your healthcare team should discuss which approach best fits your overall health status and tumor characteristics.
