Ann Arbor, MI

I initially saw a general surgeon & had it removed about 7 months ago. It was large & in my back between my ribs & shoulder blade. It was interfering with my shoulder motion & bulging out of my back. Im currently having muscle tightness & pain in that area & in the same area on the opposite side as well as random tingling in my surgical side arm. After reading more, Im worried I should have seen an oncologist or something.

The best doctor to treat desmoid tumors is a sarcoma specialist. These specialists are oncologists who have expertise in treating soft tissue tumors like desmoid tumors. They are typically found at academic medical centers and large oncology centers. Given your current symptoms, it would be valuable to seek a consultation with a sarcoma specialist. Treatment for desmoid tumors requires a multidisciplinary team approach. Because these tumors are rare and complex to treat, getting care from specialists who have specific experience with desmoid tumors is crucial for proper evaluation and treatment. While your surgery is already done, a sarcoma specialist can evaluate your current symptoms and help determine the best path forward for your care. The Sarcoma Alliance for Research Through Collaboration (SARC) provides an online map to help locate sarcoma specialists in your area. While you may need to travel to see a specialist, getting expert care is important for managing your condition effectively.
