What new treatments are available for desmoid tumors?

There are several promising new treatments being studied and recently approved for desmoid tumors:

Recently Approved:
- Nirogacestat (Ogsiveo) is the first FDA-approved targeted therapy specifically for desmoid tumors. It blocks an enzyme called gamma-secretase that helps tumors grow

Currently in Clinical Trials:
- AL102: Works similarly to nirogacestat by blocking gamma-secretase, but with different dosing and side effects. The trial recently finished enrolling participants and results are being processed
- Tegavivint: A targeted therapy that blocks protein pathways helping the tumor grow, being studied in people up to age 30
- Nirogacestat with cryoablation: Combining the medication with freezing therapy to destroy tumors
- High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU): Uses sound waves to heat and destroy tumor tissue non-invasively, especially for small intra-abdominal tumors

Other Targeted Therapies:
Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) like sorafenib (Nexavar) are also being used as targeted treatments with potentially fewer side effects than traditional chemotherapy.

If you're interested in exploring clinical trials, talk with your oncologist about options that might be right for you and what trials you may qualify for.
